Welcome to our Duboistown Garden Club website! We are happy that you are interested in our club. We have a ton to offer you from a place with people all looking for that green thumb companionship and to be able to enjoy the wonders of nature. We offer the ability to learn more by attending our monthly membership meetings, and a way to get involved with your community as well. To learn more please feel free to look around!
Picture this, thirteen women gathered in a parlor having tea and discussing their garden floral design problems. This group started to grow and it became known as the Duboistown Garden Club (DGC). As the club continued to grow, it was necessary to find a larger area to have meetings. The club then moved to a Church hall. When membership reached 100 a waiting list was started and sometimes someone might have to wait quite some time in order to gain membership. This club has been in existence now for 83 years and thousands of women and men have come and gone. Sometimes you will hear mention of a name and wish you could have known the person and seen the arrangements and displays they had put together. Eventually the DGC joined the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania(GCFP) and today is in District 5. the Project vary from judged flower shows to fund raisers for scholarships, field trips, and conservations. Programs at meetings are educational with a focus on the environment.
PROJECTS & PROGRAMS
We have a lot going on in this club, our biggest project is the Holiday House where we decorate an area, currently at Lycoming College, with trees, wreaths, flower arrangements and more! we sell handmade crafts. We raise money for scholarships throughout this and other projects we have a judged flower show every other year at Lycoming Mall. We have an annual plant sale and a bi-annual yard sale. We participate at the Bloomsburg Fair each September by decorating an area. We also do civic beautification by planting and maintaining an area of Brandon Park. We also plant a tree for Arbor Day.
Annually, DGC funds a scholarship to Penn College and a student is selected by the college to receive that award. An endowment annually is given to Lycoming College toward the Clean Water Institute. Seniors from East Lycoming High School planning to major in Environmental Science are eligible for this scholarship (annually awarded). The student must submit an essay as to why they are interested in this field of study. This scholarship is also an annual award. For more information please contact us if you are interested in the scholarship programs or have any questions!
